AARP on the Web
Here's the granddaddy of all Web sites, so to speak. Users can do everything from send a free online greeting card to find discounts on online services and travel, voice their opinions to those in Washington, or sign up for a free e-mail newsletter.

Portal to useful sites
This site is less a resource than a portal to other useful sites targeted at seniors, such as Elderobics, Aging and Health, the Novartis Foundation, the United Seniors Health Cooperative, Seniors-Site.com, Senior Legal Hotlines and Voice of the Elderly.

Grand times
This entertaining weekly, online magazine offers new articles every Tuesday about senior life. Topics: Marketplace, The Classics (great reading from previous issues), Grand Travel, World War II Vets, Guest Book ("Tell us what you like and dislike"), Worth A Look (other Web sites) and Age Wave Expose ("protest yourself from circulation fraud").

Old-time radio
In a nostalgic mood? Come visit the Old-Time Radio WWW Page. If your computer comes with speakers, as most newer equipment does, you can listen to a  few bars from the "Casablanca" theme song, "As Time Goes By," and other tunes from the pre-rock 'n' roll era.

Seniornet
SeniorNet is based on the concept that older people are as adept at using computers as anyone, and knowledge of technology can greatly enrich their lives. Visitors can take advantage of computer discounts, join a book discussion, chat about retirement living or share a joke or two.

Gardening in Western Washington

WSU Extension for gardening library, key word search, ask the expert, gardening calendar, and success stories.

Social Security online `
A service of the Social Security Administration, t on your benefits or find a way to do so from here. his site was named one of the 101 &st Net &ts' by PC Computing magazine. There are almost  too many resources to name. Suffice to say you can check

Health Care Financing Administration
This agency administers both Medicare and Medicaid. This comprehensive site offers valuable information on both programs, plus news articles, government links, and much more.

The Geezer Brigade
If you can stand it, here's a site with a little bit of an edge. Launched by a South Carolina retiree "for and by seniors with an attitude," its mottos are "empowerment through humor" and "Do not go gentle into that good night." Dylan Thomas had that right.

 Online community
An online community for seniors, this site features real-time chat rooms, forums and bulletin boards, as well as information on travel services, online shopping, government regulations and a "free store"' listing available samples.

Laws for seniors
Created by a New York law firm, this site allows senior citizens, their families, attorneys, social workers and financial planners access to information about elder law, Medicare, Medicaid, estate planning, trusts and the rights of the elderly and disabled.

 Motel Americana
This site takes a visual and literary journey down a fading side road of Americana: the funky roadside motel. Like the tiki lounge and the swanky casino, the simple American motel threatens to fade away. Motel Americana documents showy little motels in about 20 states (so far). Enjoy the photo collection of flashy neon signs and teepee-shaped cottages.  Follow pointers to other motel and travel pages, suggested books and mags.
